August: Worst Things to Buy
With fall right around the corner, it’s tempting to go on a shopping spree and get all the fun things that come along with the season change. But you might want to wait to get a fair price on a few things! After digging deep on deals, here is my list of the four worst things to buy in August:
1. Smartphones and Tablets
It’s been a reoccurring theme that the newest model of smartphones or tablets are introduced in the fall. If you are not looking to buy the newest model, hold on. Whenever they bring in new products, many times they markdown old models. You may be able to save a pretty penny when the older model goes on sale.
2. Fall/Winter Clothes
It’s tempting to go out and buy all new, cute, warm clothes that come out in stores –especially if you’re ancy to ditch the humidity and bring in sweater weather. Wait a month or two to update your wardrobe because they are most expensive whenever the line is first introduced to stores.
Pro Tip: If you’re in dire need of new clothes, check out the local resale stores. Many only accept quality clothes. You can get the clothes you want, sometimes for a big discount.
3. TV’s
With big electronic purchases like a television, it’s more beneficial to wait until Black Friday. November through January are traditionally the months you can get a steal. I know it’s a while to wait, but you can save big with Thanksgiving deals. If you wait, I promise you won’t regret it!
4. Toys
If you’re shopping early for your kiddos, you might want to hold off on the toys until closer to the holidays. Toy prices drop whenever it gets closer to the most wonderful time of the year. Also, make sure you stay tuned for Cyber Monday deals. You can catch some great savings and give your wallet a break!
Pro Tip: If you’re worried about spending your holiday cash, the Credit Union offers a Holiday Savings Account so you can put it away and not have to break the bank during the holidays.
Basic rule of thumb → If it can wait, you can save. Try to stay patient as hard as it might be.
