Best Free Events in St. Louis this Summer
Hey St. Louisans!
Fall in love with St. Louis again by becoming a tourist in your own town. Here’s your ultimate guide to free fun in the Lou this summer courtesy of the bloggers at American Eagle Credit Union.
June 15: Score one of 1,500 free seats at the Muny’s season opener, “My Fair Lady.” (Or, any of these other shows this summer)
June 16: If you’re into hiking, areas surrounding St. Louis offer plenty of trails. Head out to one of these trails after work for an evening hike.
June 17: Namaste. I know from personal experience that Yoga is SO expensive. Take a free class at Ballpark Village today, or any of these other weekdays. BONUS: lululemon sponsors a giveaway at each session, so you could win a beautiful new tank top.
June 18: Revisit one of your favorite free museums in St. Louis.
June 19: Get hands-on with your favorite charity by volunteering. Whether you’re providing professional expertise or grunt work, take a chance to give back. Don’t know where to start? Try here.
June 20: Catch a performance by the Strumbellas at the Chesterfield Amphitheater at 7:30PM.
June 21: Did you know that the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis has the largest collection of mosaics in the whole world? Sounds like another reason STL is the greatest. More info here.
June 22: Tour the Anheuser-Busch brewery with your best buds.
June 23: Visit the St. Louis Public Library, and maybe even join a reading club! Click here for more information.
June 24: Who doesn’t love the Science Center? Take a day just to unleash your inner-scientist and brush up on some facts to use at dinner parties.
June 25: There are some seriously incredible art tours daily at the Pulitzer Art Foundation. Take a tour and learn about the ever-evolving experience of art.
June 26: Have a game night
June 27: Stop by and socialize with American Eagle folks at the Benton Park Concert Series. We won’t be there again until October!
June 28: Catch the Cards vs. Cubs game at Ballpark Village.
June 29: Visit the History Museum.
June 30: Pack a picnic and head to Forest Park.
July 1: Spend an evening at home with your family and/or close friends.
July 2: Spend today (through Saturday) at Fair St. Louis in Forest Park. If you like country music, tonight’s acts include Parmalee, Chris Young, and Natalie Stovall.
July 3: Get your walking shoes on and drive out to Cahokia Mounds to dig into midwestern Native American history.
July 4: Watch fireworks at your local neighborhood park or school to celebrate the 4th of July.
July 5: Have a potluck with leftover Fourth of July food.
July 6: I know, I know. Another free concert. But seriously, if you’re into classical music or just enjoy a free evening out, attend Wash-U’s Gateway Festival Orchestra concert.
July 7: Take a stroll around Union Station (and get a free sample of fudge!)
July 8: Walk the same path as Lewis and Clark at the Camp River Dubois in Illinois.
July 9: Are you a Johnny Cash fan? The city of Ellisville is hosting “One More Round: A Tribute to Johnny Cash” at Bluebird Park from 7-9PM.
July 10: Ever been to a movie at Art Hill? Well, now’s your chance. Celebrate Back to the Future’s 30th Anniversary with hundreds of other St. Louisans at Art Hill without spending a dime.
July 11: Come see your credit union buds at the Soulard Summer Concert Series from 6-9PM! You never know if we’re giving something exciting away. Details.
July 12: Enjoy a quiet Sunday at home or in your neighborhood.
July 13: Visit the Arch.
July 14: Take a trip to your favorite credit union branch and sign up for one of our free services that you don’t already have.
July 15: Play hooky from work at spend a day at the zoo. Some friends from the credit union will even be there with our youth account kiddos! Bonus points if you can score free parking.
July 16: Listen to Griffon and the Gargoyles at the Bluebird Park in Ellisville from 7-9PM.
July 17: Can you believe Jaws was released 40 years ago? Another classic showing at Art Hill. The party starts at 6PM and the movie begins at 9:30 sharp.
July 18: Support local farmers and artisans at the Soulard Farmers Market.
July 19: Interested in learning a new skill? Take a Skillshare class or join a meet-up in your area to enhance your skills for free.
July 20: Host a cupboard potluck with your friends to clean out misc. ingredients lurking around your fridge.
July 21: Head out to the Madison County Fair in Highland to get your fair share of 4H activities and all the carnival fun you could hope for.
July 22: What’s better than a free concert? A free concert at the Botanical Garden. Listen to the soothing sounds of Magnolia Summer, or any of these other groups, Wednesdays this summer.
July 23: Missed the other Bluebird Park concerts? This last one is a treat. Enjoy “Dogs of Society: A Tribute to Elton John” from 7-9PM at Bluebird Park.
July 24: Don’t be a snob and a half. Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Clueless at Art Hill. I know I’ll for sure be at this one!
July 25: Go biking around Creve Coeur Park.
July 26: Volunteer to walk dogs at the Humane Society of Metro East.
July 27: Wander downtown Kirkwood and watch the trains.
July 28: Watch a historic trail reenactment at the Old Courthouse downtown.
July 29: Have a little one in your life? Take the morning off work and attend the Children’s Concert Series in Tower Grove Park. Doors open at 9AM!
July 30: If watching a trial reenactment at the Old Courthouse isn’t for you, take a trip there to learn more about the Civil War and the National Parks Services “Railroad to Freedom.”
July 31: Can you spot a trend? The last Friday film showing on Art Hill this summer is The Sound of Music. (Oh, and it’s been out for 50 years if you were wondering.)
August 1: Can’t make it to free yoga at Ballpark Village? No fear! You can attend a free class at the Ritz. Details.
August 2: Take a hike at the Powder Valley Conservation Center. You can even borrow binoculars to go bird-watching!
August 3: Spend some time at the world’s largest outdoor shrine, Our Lady of the Snows in Illinois.
August 4: Experience life on the farm with a day at Purina Farms.
August 6: Stretch your imagination at the Frisco Train Store.
August 7: Check out the “Push the Limit” concert at the St. Louis Zoo’s Jungle Boogie Concert Series.
August 8: Check out Steven Lee Olsen at another “Sounds of Summer” free concert at Chesterfield Amphitheater.
August 9: Two words: Peach. Festival. Sample some of the best peaches in the Midwest for free with the whole family! For those on the Missouri side, you’ll have to drive a bit to Grafton, but it’s worth the trip.
August 10: Spend a day at a community pool instead of an expensive waterpark.
August 11: Feed the goats at Grant’s Farm.
August 12: Did you know you can spot bison and elk at Lone Elk park? Yes-bison! Who knew? Check it out.
August 13: Score free samples when you take a tour of Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate!
August 14: The “Mood Swings” are playing at this week’s Jungle Boogie Concert Series. If you love 80s music, you can’t miss this.
August 15: Take a trip to the St. Louis Art Museum.
August 16: Attend Baconfest at Soldiers Memorial (13th and Chestnut) and enjoy the delightful smells of the best bacon in St. Louis.
August 17: Visit some St. Louis graves at the historic Bellfontaine Cemetery.
August 18: How about supporting the #FoodTrucksinFrontier in St. Charles? Details. The food might not be free, but the live music certainly is.
August 19: Did you know that the Delmar Loop has a planet walk? Check it out on their official website.
August 20: Learn about the Lemp family while on a tour at the historic Lemp Mansion.
August 21: Get jazzy at the last St. Louis Zoo Jungle Boogie show on this list. Don’t miss the chance to watch “Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers.”
August 22: Did you miss the last show in the Soulard Summer Concert Series? No fear. There’s another one tonight. Spoiler: We’ll be there again.
August 23: Love crafts and supporting local businesses? Patronize the 2015 Festival of Little Hills in St. Charles.
