Holiday Decorating for the First Time
I generally enjoy the holiday season but the stress is enough to do me in. The shopping, decorating, and planning frequently leaves my nerves shot and my wallet empty. I decorated my house for the first time this year and it went unexpectedly well. The pressure to spruce up the homestead on a budget, while still having to shop on the same budget, was enduring but I made it work. If the financial implications of decking the walls make you uneasy, follow these tips to liven up your house without breaking the bank.

Display a tree. If you celebrate Christmas, the most Christmasy thing you can do is put up and decorate a tree. We use a fake one because we can’t handle the hassle of a real one. And it’s cheaper. Buy one after the holiday season for next year and you’ll save a bundle.
String some lights on your roof. This will make your house look good and, more importantly, signal to your neighbors that you are festive and fun-loving people. I got a string of lights for $25 and some gutter clips for $6. My neighborhood went all in on Halloween decorations but appear to be skimping on the Christmas spirit. Our house looks good though, plus, after I hung our lights, a neighbor brought over cookies.
Hang some wreaths. Front door, all the doors inside your house, wherever you feel like!
Use your surroundings. Do you have pine cones lying around the yard? Gather a few and display them in a bowl.
For the first holiday in my first house, I think I did a pretty good job setting the mood. Follow these tips and stress about what to get your mom, not about your décor.
