Prepping for the Seasonal Transition
It’s been eight and a half months since we launched this blog, and we’ve seen the transition from winter to spring to summer, and now we’re on to fall. We have a few tips to get you ready for the colder weather. Trust us, your checking account will love us.
Check for drafts in your house: Winter utility bills are no joke (unless you’re an eskimo, of course). Check for drafts as the weather gets cooler so you can remedy them accordingly.
Inspect your furnace: A little preventative maintenance can go a long way. Call in a professional to take a peek at your furnace to make sure it’s in tip top shape before the unbearable winter temps set in. Furnaces are expensive to fix, and many issues can be caught beforehand. Trust us-you don’t want your furnace to go out in the dead of winter!
Clean your garage: We know, this one is probably last on the list of things you don’t want to do, but keeping your garage/shed clean is good for you for a couple of reasons. First, it helps you take inventory of items you already own. My garage at home is filled with 10 different brands of car wash, only because it’s unorganized and I can never find it when I need it. I could have saved at least $50 by now by simply keeping things organized. Second, it’s just one less thing to worry about that you’ve been putting off. Hop to it!
Store outdoor furniture: You don’t want your lawn furniture rusting under snow, do you? Store it in your freshly organized garage.
Drain your faucets and store hoses: Make sure you drain all water from external faucets so your pipes don’t freeze. Want to talk about a costly home repair? Frozen pipes take the cake in cost and inconvenience.
Clean up your finances. Spent a little too much this summer? Don’t sweat it. Transfer your credit card balance to a lower interest card, or even switch your checking account somewhere with a free option. We can give a pretty stellar recommendation.
